About Coal Marketing Company (CMC)

CMC – Coal Marketing Company Ltd was established in Dublin
on 1 January 2003 by its then three shareholders: Anglo American, BHPBilliton and Glencore. In 2006 Xstrata plc acquired Glencore’s 33% share of CMC and assumed their position in the consortium.

CMC Coal Marketing Company is the exclusive marketer of thermal steam coal from the Cerrejón mining complex in northern Colombia.

Since its inception CMC has continued to develop sales of Cerrejón coal throughout the Atlantic basin and the Americas; marketing and co-ordinating the delivery of over 30 million tonnes in 2008 alone. Production and sales are expected to rise to 32 million tonnes in 2009.
